Now don’t think this blog is just me spouting about  Snowboarding and the like, but every now and then I feel the need to add in stuff which I feel affects the world in which we live.

One of those is a project brought up in a recent meeting called “Designed to Move”  Now before you think its me giving Nike another place to show off, watch this video, and I think you will be blown away by the statistic at the end.

You see?

Shocking right?  In a world where we can send people into space, phones can control heat and light at home, and we have more opportunities than ever to try new sports and activities, kids are doing less sport than ever.  Maybe its parents wanting them to be safe, maybe its society not wanting to allow kids to make mistakes and get a grazed knee by falling off a bike.

This diagram taken from the designed to move info pack shows you what issues we are looking at now.  if Kids are inactive, they are sick more often, miss school, and so read on….

This next one actually shows how much less activity there has been over the last years.  Crazy to think that since 1955 kids now take 32% less exercise.  I mean there is options with thing like play stations and xboxes but people have a choice how much they let kids watch I suppose.  And you think its getting any better with the internet being on every phone, computer and iPad?  Nope, probably even worse, and when you take a look at the projections for 2030, its 46% worse than in 1955.

This slide shows you the insane amount of money being spent on costs associated with obesity.  If you look at the US alone, that means they in 2012 are spending twice as much on looking after obesity and its effects, as we are on education in general, not just health education, but all education.  No wonder kids don’t know any better!

Now I don’t need to law out the benefits of exercise, but as you see below…. it is definitely going to get you headed in the right direction/

Before i give you overkill with diagrams, this next and last one shows the intergenerational which will continue through.  Its almost like the rich get richer, the poor get poorer except in terms of health.

So whats my point with all this?  Well basically just, it doesn’t matter what you do, just do something.  Get out, get amoungst it, don’t find an excuse, and do your bit to turn this terrible trend around.
